Straying a bit today, but I just finished installing the new Google Mail Mobile Application on my Blackberry. Right before that, I bookmarked the latest version of Google Reader Mobile.
After finally getting an application called GCalSync to work properly a few weeks back, I can honestly say that my reliance on Google is now complete.
Why do I say this? Because when I got my first PDA several years ago, it was clear that without either Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes, I was up a creek with regards to true synchronization for a reasonable price if I ever left those apps behind.
When I started Word of Mouse, I made the conscious decision to rely solely on web applications to manage my mail, my schedule, and pretty much everything in my world. It didn't take me long to realize that without good synchronization features, my Blackberry would be relegated to a really cool little web browser and little else.
But today, I can actually use GMail efficiently on my mobile instead of having my mail forwarded to my Blackberry, thus eliminating the need to maintain two mail systems. I can sync my calendars with minimal effort - without errors (email me if you need help with that! GCalSync is an interesting animal). I can even use Google Reader to catch up on my RSS feeds anytime I want.
Bottom line - technology is moving at ridiculous speeds. A lot of my friends told me not long ago that I was out of my mind to run a business using nothing but web-based solutions.
And this blogging stuff is just a flash in the pan, isn't it?
